Rita S. Berkowitz received a Bachelor of Fine Art from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY and attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She also has a Master of Science in Psychological Counseling.
Her work was shown in New York and throughout New England from 1979 - 1998.
After taking a fourteen year hiatus to be the pastor of a church, Rita got a studio in Rockland, MA at the Wright Building and joined the 4th Floor Artists, a member of Gallery 4.
She is also a member of North River Arts Society, Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod , Pastel Painters Society of Connecticut, Painters for a Purpose and is a Juried Gallery Artist at South Shore Art Center in Cohasset, MA.
Her earlier works were large scale figurative drawings and paintings.
But in 2012 when she moved to Scituate, MA she was totally inspired by nature and discovered the intimacy of the small landscape.
In 2012 she was the recipient of the Margaret Marshall Dillon Award for someone returning to the field of Art.
Rita taught Figure Drawing and Fashion Illustration at the School of Fashion Design, Drawing and Painting at Bradford College, Color Theory, Illustration and Painting at the Worcester Art Museum, Color Theory at Fitchburg State College and Fashion Illustration at Framingham State.
